Virtual Reality: Site of a New Oral Culture?

Virtual reality platforms like AltspaceVR, Oculus Social, and vTime now offer users the opportunity to chat, watch videos, and socialize in fully three-dimensional, multi-user worlds. At first glance, virtual socializing sounds like a contradiction in terms: can people truly be said to be socially engaged when they’re interacting with others thousands of miles away whom they may have never met in real life?
